King of Kings and Lord of Lords

Easter 2020

I was always told religion and politics are dangerous subjects. That may explain my fascination with both.

Faith, though, is a different animal than religion and I’ve never questioned anyone’s faith or lack of.  Like the song says, that path is for your steps alone.

Today is Easter Sunday on the Western Christian calendar. We are also right in the middle of the Passover celebration. Each feast comes in spring, with its promise of rebirth. I think that promise is universal, no matter what your personal belief in God or miracles and no matter what creed you may follow.

What follows was originally written for another person and another purpose. Lightly edited for this space, I ask you to indulge me and hope some part of it speaks to you.

Today, in country after country, in town after town, people celebrate the Rising of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It’s the Lord’s triumph over death, after all, that allows us, as people of faith, to come together, to work together and to help transform the world together.

That work of transformation is the great work we all take part in. The Lord taught us that whatever we do for the least of our brethren, we do for Him.  Each of us is called to express that in a unique way.

I pray the miracle of the Resurrection reminds you of the boundless love God has for us and the promise of eternal life. May your Easter be filled with the joy of this, the greatest miracle.

Alleluia!
